Meeting with the World Bank Mission
On March 13, 2024, Firdavs Tolibzoda, Chairman of the National Bank of Tajikistan, received the World Bank Mission which is on a working visit to the Republic of Tajikistan.
During the meeting the second phase of the project "Financial Sector Strengthening» in the Republic of Tajikistan was discussed.
Chairman of the National Bank of Tajikistan Firdavs Tolibzoda thanked the World Bank for the long-term cooperation and continuous support of the projects aimed at strengthening the economic and social sectors of the Republic of Tajikistan and noted that currently the National Bank of Tajikistan is cooperating with the World Bank within the framework of three projects, including "Digital Basics of Tajikistan", "Financial System Stability and Private Sector Strengthening" and the second phase of the project "Financial Sector Strengthening of Tajikistan".
Firdavs Tolibzoda appreciated deeply the contribution of the World Bank to the successful implementation of the efforts of the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan to maintain economic and financial stability in the country and noted that within the framework of the World Bank's Technical Support Program for Financial Sector Stability financed by SECO the National Bank of Tajikistan achieved significant results.
Senior Financial Sector Expert with the Finance Competitiveness and Innovation Global Practice of the World Bank Group, Europe and Central Asia Unit Mr. Pietro Calice expressed his satisfaction with the achieved results of the financial sector of the Republic of Tajikistan, especially the banking system, as well as the World Bank's readiness to beneficial cooperation.
In the course of the meeting the parties discussed a number of issues, including the financing of green economy, climate change risks, supporting the opportunities of insurance market sustainable development in the Republic of Tajikistan, protecting financial services consumers’ rights, improving the regulatory legal framework, digital financial services, implementing the Financial Inclusion Strategy, maintaining macroeconomic stability, increasing non-cash payments, ensuring the payment system’s stability, membership of the National Bank of Tajikistan in the Sustainable Banking and Financing Network ("SBFN"), securities market development and the issuance of green bonds, the opening of correspondent accounts, etc.
Firdavs Tolibzoda, Chairman of the National Bank of Tajikistan, once again expressed his desire to continue the beneficial cooperation and mentioned that in order to ensure the economic development and expansion of the banking system of Tajikistan he will support the constructive initiatives of this prestigious international organization and take measures to implement them.
