Participation of Hokim Kholiqzoda in the Tajikistan Investment and Development Forum in London

On March 28-29, 2023, on the initiative of the Embassy of the Republic of Tajikistan in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, with the support of the Government of the country, the Tajikistan Investment and Development Forum was held in London, which was attended by the officials from line ministries and the banking system of the country.

The main purpose of this forum is to strengthen and expand commercial and investment links through establishment of a free and constructive dialogue between government agencies, the banking system, entrepreneurs and investors, and on this basis, in the fields of commerce, investment and others.                                                   

Within the framework of this Forum, the Chairman of the National Bank of Tajikistan Hokim Kholiqzoda made presentations on investment opportunities, as well as about the process of digitalization of the country's banking system on the topics "Digitalization of the financial sector and the introduction of new financial technologies in Tajikistan" and "Investment opportunities as a factor in the development of Tajikistan."

He also noted that digitalization is one of the aspects of improving the quality of public services and expanding the activities of the private sector, and the National Bank of Tajikistan as a regulator plays a key role in the development of financial digital technologies in the country.

He also urged the UK investors to study the banking system of the Republic of Tajikistan with a view to possible future investment, taking into account investment opportunities and provision state guarantees to foreign investments. It should be noted that with the aim of establishing cooperation and search for new opportunities of correspondent relations, the heads of SUE SB RT "Amonatbank", OJSC "Orienbank", OJSC "Commerzbank of Tajikistan", CJSC "International Bank of Tajikistan", CJSC " Spitamen Bank” and CJSC “Arvand” as well attended the Forum.

Furthermore, during the meetings with representatives of ICBC Standard Bank Plc and Citibank UK, country's bank employees expressed their readiness to strengthen correspondent relations between the commercial banks of the two countries.

Within the framework of this forum, SUE SB RT "Amonatbank", OJSC "Orienbank", OJSC "Commerzbank of Tajikistan" and CJSC "International Bank of Tajikistan" signed a memorandum of understanding with the International Compliance Association (ICA) to improve the compliance skills of employees, and CJSC "Arvand” signed an agreement with the International Finance Corporation (IFC) to attract technical assistance.

Given the current global and regional economic state, the Tajikistan Investment and Development Forum in London is an important and timely initiative that lays a solid foundation for strengthening and expanding cooperation between the banking system of the Republic of Tajikistan and the UK.
