President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon participates in Third United Nations Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries

On August 5, the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, Leader of the Nation, Honorable Emomali Rahmon, participated in and delivered a speech at the Third United Nations Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries in the city of Avaza, Turkmenistan.
The President of our country, Emomali Rahmon, expressed gratitude to the leader of the host country for the warm welcome and to the United Nations for holding an important international conference at a high level.
It was emphasized that in terms of results and a comprehensive analysis of the implementation of the Vienna Programme of Action 2014-2024, today’s Conference is of particular importance for the Group of Landlocked Developing Countries.
According to the Head of State, Emomali Rahmon, this event will allow us to identify priority areas for mobilizing further efforts.
Our Head of State, Emomali Rahmon, drew the attention of the conference participants to the need to implement effective means of ensuring sustainable development, eliminate problems related to transit and infrastructure restrictions, implement joint projects in the energy sector, and build other social infrastructure for landlocked countries.
It was stressed that the geographical location of developing landlocked countries has led to their difficulties.
Geopolitical tensions, financial and economic crises, climate change, and other global risks and threats were considered factors that make countries vulnerable.
The President of our country, Emomali Rahmon, stated that Tajikistan, given the priority of the transport and energy sectors, attaches special importance to the rapid development of these areas.
Other efforts of Tajikistan to achieve these goals were called the adaptation to the requirements of the World Trade Organization and other international standards, as well as the digitalization of trade and customs procedures.
Our Head of State, Emomali Rahmon, noted that Tajikistan, taking into account its hydropower potential, attaches particular importance to ensuring energy independence and developing this sector.
In this regard, the Head of State, Emomali Rahmon, especially pointed out that the implementation of the “National Strategy for the Development of the Green Economy” by 2037 will allow Tajikistan to fully switch to generating electricity from renewable sources in the future.
Much attention was paid to the negative impact of climate change on the economies and ecosystems of landlocked developing countries.
Our Head of State highlighted that Tajikistan has been actively participating in promoting the international water and climate agenda as a leading country for the past 20 years.
The need to take urgent measures and implement effective joint actions at the global level to protect drinking water sources, especially glaciers, was accentuated.
It was stated that the results of the International Conference on Glaciers’ Preservation, held this year in cooperation with the United Nations in Dushanbe, will serve to advance important global processes in the field of water, climate, and sustainable development.
Our Head of State, Emomali Rahmon, stated that the implementation of the United Nations resolution on the declaration of 2025-2034 as the “Decade of Action for Cryospheric Sciences”, adopted at the initiative of Tajikistan and France, will contribute to the efforts of the international community in this direction.
The call of the international community to increase funding for measures related to climate protection and elimination of the consequences of natural disasters was supported.
In his speech, the President of our country, Emomali Rahmon, emphasized that the results of the joint efforts of the parties in this direction will become another effective factor in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, and such constructive work will undoubtedly provide an appropriate opportunity to address the problems of landlocked developing countries and eliminate obstacles to their further economic and social development.
