Consideration of cooperation with the World Bank


On 22-23 May, 2024, Firdavs Tolibzoda, Chairman of the National Bank of Tajikistan, met with World Bank’s representatives led by the Regional Director of the World Bank in Central Asia, Asad Alam.

During the meeting, the parties discussed the current state of the banking system and macroeconomic indicators of the country, as well as various issues relating to bilateral relations, prospects for development and expansion of cooperation, placing emphasis on using existing opportunities and resources.

It was noted that the National Bank of Tajikistan, as a system regulator, given the growing importance of the financial sector in greening the economy, continuously cooperates with international financial institutions and helps the country's financial institutions to develop and implement ESG best practices, climate change and environmental risk management programs.

Among the issues mentioned, the parties also discussed the “Development Policy Support Project” and the study of new areas of cooperation to support the goals of the country’s socio-economic development in the future, including the development of non-cash payments in the economy and considered its implementation important for the socio-economic development of the country, especially the non-cash payments development

The World Bank delegation mentioned the efforts of the Republic of Tajikistan to expand non-cash payments in transactions and stated that the World Bank supports the efforts of the Republic of Tajikistan in this direction.

It is worth noting that the meeting was held in a good atmosphere of mutual understanding and the parties expressed their willingness to continue the beneficial bilateral relations.
