Meeting with World Bank Leaders


On October 22, this year, during the annual meetings of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank Group in Washington, D.C., USA, Minister of Finance of the Republic of Tajikistan Qahhorzoda Fayziddin Sattor, Chairman of the National Bank of Tajikistan Tolibzoda Firdavs Nazrimad, and Permanent Representative of the Republic of Tajikistan to the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank Amirzoda Payrav met with Mrs. Antonella Bassani, Vice President of the World Bank for Europe and Central Asia.

During the meeting, the parties exchanged views on main areas of cooperation with the World Bank, namely the implementation of comprehensive and structural reforms of the country’s economy, particularly in the energy sector, digitalization, and improvement of the investment climate. They noted that issues related to climate change, ensuring environmental safety, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and developing a "green" economy are growing increasingly important in the modern world and can become a serious factor in creating economic risks.

In this regard, they noted that to promote sustainable development and green financing in the financial market of the Republic of Tajikistan, the National Bank of Tajikistan continues to regularly cooperate with relevant ministries and departments of the country, the World Bank Group, and development partners.

The meeting also included an exchange of views on the construction of a large strategic facility – the Rogun HPP, financing budget support, and attracting investments for other important projects.

During the day, the official delegation of the Republic of Tajikistan also held a working meeting with Mr. Akihiko Nishio, the World Bank Vice President of the Financial Development Department.

They noted that the Republic of Tajikistan is at the stage of implementing a number of important projects aimed at developing infrastructure, improving access to education and health, addressing climate change, and managing natural resources. The World Bank, as one of the main partners in ensuring sustainable development, can become a partner in implementing these important projects.

In conclusion, it was emphasized that the implementation of reforms in priority areas for the Republic of Tajikistan will continue.
