On November 26, 2024, a meeting was held in Riyadh between an official delegation from Tajikistan, led by the First Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Tajikistan, Kholiqzoda H.H., and Khaled bin Walid al-Zahir, the First Deputy Chairman of the Central Bank of Saudi Arabia for Control and Technology.
The meeting discussed issues related to developing interbank cooperation, including the development of the Islamic banking system, expanding interbank operations, attracting Islamic capital, establishing direct cooperation between commercial banks in both countries, and other relevant matters. Both parties stated that this meeting would significantly contribute to strengthening and expanding bilateral relations between central banks and commercial banks.
On the same day, a meeting was held between the delegation from Tajikistan and representatives of EXIMBANK of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The parties exchanged views on establishing and developing interbank cooperation, particularly regarding the opening of correspondent accounts. In this regard, the management of EXIMBANK expressed its willingness to open correspondent accounts with financial credit institutions in the Republic of Tajikistan.
It is noteworthy that on November 26th, the Intergovernmental Commission of the Republic of Tajikistan and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia also held a meeting focusing on economic, trade, investment, technical, and cultural cooperation. Issues of interbank cooperation were also discussed during this meeting. The participants noted that mutual cooperation within the framework of the Intergovernmental Commission would contribute to the development of bilateral economic cooperation.
