Meeting with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan


On March 5, 2025, Firdavs Tolibzoda, Chairman of the National Bank of Tajikistan, met with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Tajikistan, Ms. Keiko Furuta. During their conversation, the parties exchanged views on the current state of the country's banking system, the expansion of cooperation in the banking sector, the opening of correspondent accounts, the participation of Japanese capital in the authorized capital of credit institutions in Tajikistan, as well as the opening of branches and representative offices of banks in the country.

Mr. Tolibzoda initially introduced Ms. Furuta to the macroeconomic situation and banking system of the country, noting that the National Bank of Tajikistan, as the country's central bank, is interested in developing and strengthening ties between the banking systems of the Republic of Tajikistan and Japan. This includes establishing correspondent relations, opening correspondent accounts with Japanese banks, and establishing bilateral cooperation with the Central Bank of Japan.

Today, the legislation of the Republic of Tajikistan in the field of banking has created favorable conditions for the establishment of foreign banks, their branches, and representative offices in Tajikistan. The National Bank of Tajikistan is ready to consider applications for the opening of banks, branches, and representative offices of foreign banks. The state guarantees equal rights for foreign and domestic investors, noted Mr. Tolibzoda.

During the meeting, the parties also discussed cooperation through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in the Republic of Tajikistan and the JDS grant project (“Human Resource Development Scholarship Program”), noting that these projects make a significant contribution to strengthening infrastructure, disaster risk management, and human resource development.

The participants expressed their belief that continued efforts to build capacity, strengthen international cooperation, and provide educational opportunities will contribute to the development of Tajikistan's banking sector and overall economic progress.

At the end of the meeting, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Tajikistan, Ms. Keiko Furuta, welcomed the interest of the National Bank of Tajikistan in expanding cooperation in the banking sector of the two countries and expressed her interest in strengthening effective cooperation.
