On March 13, 2025, Mr. Firdavs Tolibzoda, Chairman of the National Bank of Tajikistan, met with Mr. Hussein Ozkhan, Managing Director of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) for Central Asia and Mongolia. During the meeting, the parties exchanged views on implementing joint projects aimed at improving corporate management in the banking sector, developing money and capital markets and insurance, improving the country's monetary policy, green financing, and other areas of expanding cooperation.
The Chairman of the National Bank of Tajikistan briefed the EBRD delegation on the country’s macroeconomic situation and banking system, noting that despite high levels of economic uncertainty in the region, the country’s macroeconomic indicators and banking system remain stable.
During the discussion, it was noted that the National Bank of Tajikistan has decided to develop a single information platform to provide stakeholders with high-quality information on the implementation process of joint projects.
As part of supporting a “green” financial system, it was stated that the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan has adopted the “Strategy for the Development of the Green Economy in the Republic of Tajikistan for 2023–2037” to attract green financing. This strategy includes institutional reforms and plays an important role in implementing environmental, social, and corporate governance principles, climate risk analysis in financial institutions, and developing the green financing market.
The parties also discussed developing the country’s insurance market. It was noted that a "Strategy for the Development of the Insurance System in the Republic of Tajikistan for 2025–2029" has been developed. The parties considered it important to establish cooperation between the National Bank of Tajikistan and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development to strengthen the capacity of the insurance supervision department and introduce new types of insurance services.
Overall, the meeting took place in a good atmosphere of mutual understanding, and the parties expressed their readiness to continue cooperation.
