Gulbahor Naziri, Deputy Chairwoman of Tajikistan's National Bank, met with Timur Ishmetov, Chairman of Uzbekistan's Central Bank, on April 10th in Tashkent to discuss enhancing collaboration between the two nations' banking systems. The discussion centered on existing regulatory agreements, specifically those concerning supervision of payment service providers and financial institutions. Both parties emphasized the importance of expanding correspondent relationships between banks and sharing best practices in financial inclusion strategies and research.
It was pointed out that Tajikistan highlighted its commitment to strengthening ties with Uzbekistan, recognizing their shared history and geographical proximity as key drivers for mutually beneficial cooperation. Robust economic relations were identified as essential for sustained collaboration between the banking sectors.
Additionally, the meeting explored further avenues for cooperation, including expanding the use of national currencies in transactions through national payment card systems and establishing platforms for knowledge exchange through consultations, training programs, and academic events.
