Meeting with the WB Regional Director
On May 27 this year the Chairman of National Bank of Tajikistan Firdavs Tolibzoda held a meeting with Mr. Asad Alam, the WB Regional Director for Europe and Central Asia, Equitable Financial Development and Institutions. The issues of progress in the implementing current projects, important areas of cooperation, including the development of financial inclusion and a non-cash economy as well as the study of new areas of partnership to support the goals of the country's socio-economic development were discussed in the meeting.
During the meeting, the parties have exchanged views on projects for development of the financial and private sectors, supporting the development policies and strengthening the financial sector in Tajikistan, and it was noted that these projects were successfully implemented, and in the framework of the implementation of the reform matrix, necessary measures were taken to improve the efficiency of the financial sector and access to financial services. Currently, certain work is ongoing in the framework of the 2nd phase of the project "Strengthening the Financial Sector in Tajikistan" and the project "Development of the Financial and Private Sectors".
Concerning the financial inclusion in the country, the Chairman of the National Bank of Tajikistan has stated that the banking system has taken the necessary measures to expand non-cash payments, develop digital infrastructure, introduce innovative technologies and improve financial services, and financial credit institutions are currently using modern technologies for remote banking services, such as bank payment cards, electronic wallets, mobile banking, internet banking, payments through POS terminals and QR codes.
It was also discussed in the meeting the issues related to new areas of partnership in the insurance sector, climate change and gender equality. In general, the meeting took place in a spirit of good understanding and mutual respect, and the parties have expressed their willingness to continue cooperation.
