On July 24, 2025, the First Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Tajikistan Kholiqzoda Hokim Hikmatullo met with the newly appointed Resident Representative of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in the Republic of Tajikistan Mr. Gazi Shbaykat.
On behalf of the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan, the First Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Tajikistan has welcomed Mr. Shbaykat to the country and congratulated him on officially appointment to the position of the IMF Resident Representative.
It was noted that the permanent presence of the IMF Representative in Tajikistan will contribute to the strengthening of permanent dialogue and the timely approval of important political decisions. In this context, the hope for effective cooperation was expressed, especially in the implementation of structural reforms in the framework of joint IMF programs.
The First Deputy Prime Minister has emphasized the important and timely role of the Policy Coordination Instrument (PCI) in the process of promoting structural reforms, strengthening monetary policy and increasing financial transparency. It was emphasized that the Republic of Tajikistan has successfully completed two stages of reviewing this program, which is the result of the proper implementation of the government's obligations under this program.
The Tajik side also has emphasized its willingness to continue comprehensive reforms, especially in the areas of improving the investment climate, digitalizing the economy, expanding financial inclusion and sustainable energy.
In conclusion Kholikzoda H.H. noted the active participation of the Republic of Tajikistan in the climate reform process and assessed the protection of glaciers and the environment as an issue of global importance. In this context, the Government of Tajikistan highly appreciated the IMF's attention to climate issues and considered it important to use existing financial instruments to support Tajikistan's green initiatives.
It is worth noting that the Chairman of National Bank of Tajikistan Tolibzoda Firdavs Nazrimad also has participated in this meeting.
