On October 3, 2020, the Chairman of National Bank of Tajikistan Firdavs Tolibzoda met with a delegation from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, led by Georgiy Orlov, EBRD Director for Financial Institutions in Central Asia, Caucasus, Mongolia, and Turkey.
The Chairman of the National Bank of Tajikistan briefed the EBRD delegation on the macroeconomic situation and the state of the country's banking system, noting that despite the high level of economic uncertainty in the region, the country's macroeconomic indicators and banking system remain stable. During the meeting, the parties have discussed strengthening cooperation in the framework of the EBRD projects in the financial sector, including support for small and medium-sized businesses, women entrepreneurs, youth, green economy initiatives, as well as the development of financial and capital markets and improvement of an effective monetary policy mechanism.
The meeting also included an exchange of views on the development of the country's insurance market, and the approval of the "Strategy for the Development of Insurance System in the Republic of Tajikistan for 2025-2029" was viewed as an important foundation for reforms and bringing the sector into line with modern requirements. It was also noted that cooperation between the National Bank of Tajikistan and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development in this area will contribute to strengthening the capacity of the insurance supervisory authority and the introduction of insurance services.
In general, the meeting was held in an atmosphere of mutual understanding, and the parties have expressed their willingness to continue implementing priority projects and sustainable development of the country's financial system.
