Meeting with the World Bank Vice President for Europe and Central Asia


On October 16, a delegation of the Republic of Tajikistan led by the First Deputy Prime Minister Hokim Kholiqzoda, met with Ms. Antonella Bassani, World Bank Vice President for Europe and Central Asia. During the meeting, they have exchanged views on the macroeconomic situation in the Republic of Tajikistan, statistical indicators, strengthening financial stability, including the implementation of existing projects, and prospects for strengthening cooperation in economic reforms, public finance management, energy resources, improving the investment climate, and other areas of economic development.

Speaking on behalf of the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan, the First Deputy Prime Minister Hokim Kholiqzoda has expressed gratitude to the World Bank leadership for their continued support in implementing the country's priority socioeconomic development areas. It was noted that over the years of cooperation between the Republic of Tajikistan and the World Bank, a trusting and constructive relationship has been established that now covers important areas of the country's development: from strengthening the financial system and digitalization to energy, infrastructure, and the green economy. It was emphasized that consistent reforms and support from international partners have contributed to strengthening macroeconomic stability and maintaining high rates of economic growth in the Republic of Tajikistan. In particular, the real growth in the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of 8,2% for January-August 2025 is an indicator of the country's sustainable economic development.

During the meeting, issues related to the energy sector development, implementation of the Roghun Hydroelectric Power Plant (HPP) project, and the expansion of the green economy were discussed. It was emphasized that Tajikistan is one of the first countries in the region to adopt and implement a National Climate Adaptation Strategy and a Green Transition Program. Tajikistan is committed to strengthening cooperation in renewable energy development, human resource development, private sector support, infrastructure development and expansion in the framework of the new Country Partnership Strategy with the World Bank for 2026-2031. The meeting also focused on accelerating and ensuring the timely implementation of the World Bank projects in the area of ​​economic digitalization, an area of ​​strategic importance for the Government of Tajikistan.

In turn, World Bank Vice President Ms.Antonella Bassani has expressed her institution's willingness to include Tajikistan in regional initiatives and the development of new economic integration platforms. It was noted that reforms in priority areas will continue to be implemented.

In conclusion, First Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Tajikistan, Hokim Kholiqzoda, has stated that the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan considers the long-term fruitful cooperation with the World Bank as an important factor in the country's sustainable development and it is interested in continuing new joint initiatives to further the country's economic and social progress.
