On November 5, 2025, the National Bank of Tajikistan hosted a final meeting of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) mission with representatives of the country's economic ministries and agencies. The results of the third review of the IMF's Policy Coordination Instrument (PCI) for the Republic of Tajikistan were discussed in the meeting.
In his speech, Firdavs Tolibzoda, Chairman of the National Bank of Tajikistan, has noted that the PCI implementation is proceeding according to plan, and the quantitative indicators and reform goals reflected in the third review have been generally achieved. As a result of consistent reforms, the country's economy is growing steadily, and monetary policy has demonstrated effectiveness in maintaining inflation below the established target. Expressing hope for the continuation of positive economic development trends, Firdavs Tolibzoda has emphasized that the success of these efforts largely depends on a number of factors, primarily economic stability in Tajikistan's main trading partners.
The Republic of Tajikistan intends to continue to take the necessary measures for strengthening the economy in the framework of the Policy Coordination Instrument Program, which aims to enhance budget sustainability, improve monetary, foreign exchange, and financial policies, and promote sustainable and inclusive development. During the discussions, Assistant to the President of the Republic of Tajikistan for Legal Affairs Zarif Alizoda, Minister of Energy and Water Resources Juma Daler Shofaqir, and the heads of several government agencies and institutions have expressed their opinions and proposals for the program's implementation.
In his statement, the head of International Monetary Fund Mission Mr. Matthew Gartner has noted that the mission's meetings and discussions with ministries and agencies demonstrate positive trends in Tajikistan's economic indicators and prospects, adding that the comments and suggestions made will be taken into account. In the closing remarks, Chairman of the National Bank of Tajikistan Firdavs Tolibzoda has underlined that the Government of Tajikistan recognizes the importance of this program and it is making every effort to ensure its successful implementation. "We are confident that the successful implementation of the program will facilitate the attraction of additional financing for priority social and infrastructure projects aimed at promoting sustainable development, and the recommendations of the IMF experts will be crucial. We support constructive dialogue and are willing to discuss all issues related to the current status and future steps," the NBT Chairman has noted.
