On December 1, 2025 Firdavs Tolibzoda, Chairman of the National Bank of Tajikistan, met with a delegation from the Swiss Agency for Economic Cooperation (SECO) led by Denise Lüthi, Director of the Swiss Agency for Economic Cooperation in Tajikistan and Ronald Gindrat, SECO Regional Program Manager.
During the meeting, Firdavs Tolibzoda has noted that in recent years, the country's financial system has entered a new stage of sustainable development, with important achievements including strengthening the banking system, developing digital services, increasing financial inclusion and attracting foreign investment.
It was emphasized that the World Bank's "Strengthening the Financial Sector in Tajikistan" project (Phase II), implemented with the support of SECO, has contributed to the implementation of Basel II-III standards, strengthening risk-based supervision, integrating climate change-related risks, improving the payment system infrastructure and ensuring consumer protection for financial services.
The Chairman of the National Bank of Tajikistan has called on the SECO to assist in further improving the macroprudential system, strengthening the legal framework for consumer protection of digital and insurance services, organizing additional training programs and considering the opportunity of launching Phase III.
Furthermore, the next meeting of the Technical Coordination Committee for the World Bank-SECO project "Strengthening the Financial Sector in Tajikistan" was held under the leadership of Daler Murodalizoda, Deputy Chairman of the National Bank of Tajikistan.
During the meeting, the results of the phased audits and key project milestones were presented, and important issues related to improving banking supervision, risk analysis, financial stability, securities market development, financial consumer protection, and improving the payment system infrastructure were discussed.
The Technical Coordination Committee meeting allowed the parties to review the current status of the project, challenges, and future actions, as well as develop recommendations and proposals for accelerating reforms and strengthening cooperation between the country's authorities and development partners.
In conclusion, noting the long-standing mutually beneficial cooperation between the National Bank of Tajikistan and development partners, the parties have expressed hope for further expansion of these relations and strengthening of the stability of the country's financial system.
