On May 25, 2026, it was held a meeting of Chairman of the National Bank of Tajikistan Firdavs Tolibzoda and delegation of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) led by the EBRD Vice President for Political Affairs and Cooperation Mark Bowman.
The meeting was attended by the First Deputy Chairman of National Bank of Tajikistan Firuz Sharifzoda, EBRD Managing Director for Central Asia and Mongolia Hussein Ozhan, EBRD Country Manager for the Republic of Tajikistan Holger Wifel, Deputy Director, Senior Banker for Financial Institutions in Central Asia, Caucasus and Turkey Azamat Ibragimov, Director for Capital Markets and Financial Markets Development (CFMD) Alex Pivovarsky, and heads of relevant structural subdivisions of the National Bank of Tajikistan.
During the meeting the parties have discussed issues related to the implementation of ongoing EBRD projects in Tajikistan, the current situation and prospects for further cooperation.
Firdavs Tolibzoda has assessed the EBRD's contribution as a strategic partner in strengthening the country's banking system, including support for economic and financial reforms, private sector development, and sustainable development of the country as significant.
Also the parties have shared views on the exchange rate policy, process of digitalization of banking system, the Policy Coordination Instrument (PCI), compliance, demand for mortgage loans, development of the insurance market, improving the capacity of employees in compliance with standards, anti-money laundering and combating terrorism financing, risk management and implementation of modern control methods, financing the green economy, climate change risks, investment by financial credit institutions as well as issues of developing the "green" economy and sustainable finance.
The meeting also has focused on development of the securities market, transition to a "green" economy, development of the insurance system, anti-money laundering, presentation of the implementation of EBRD products on product exchange, and issues related to risk.
The EBRD Vice President Mark Bowman has expressed satisfaction with the level of mutually beneficial cooperation with Tajikistan and the EBRD's willingness to continue supporting economic and financial reforms, development of the banking system, and especially the private sector of the country.
