On August 20, 2026, the Chairman of the National Bank of Tajikistan, Firdavs Tolibzoda, met with the Ambassador of the Republic of India to Tajikistan, Rajesh Uike. During the meeting, the parties discussed expanding cooperation between Tajikistan and India in the banking sector, including the development of payment systems, digital financial services, financial inclusion, banking and insurance supervision, as well as the exchange of experience and the strengthening of cooperation with the Reserve Bank of India.
They also exchanged views on establishing direct relations between commercial banks of the two countries, expanding correspondent banking relationships, and creating favorable conditions for cross-border payments.
Firdavs Tolibzoda, Chairman of the National Bank of Tajikistan, emphasized that the country attaches great importance to attracting foreign investment and fostering the participation of international financial institutions in its banking and financial system. Within this framework, the involvement of Indian investors and financial institutions in Tajikistan's financial sector is highly welcomed. During the meeting, it was noted that strengthening bilateral banking cooperation could boost economic and financial ties between Tajikistan and India, opening up new avenues for collaboration.
