On September 28, a delegation of the National Bank of Tajikistan led by First Deputy Chairman Firuz Sharifzoda met with Hikmet Can Yilmaz, Head of the SWIFT Regional Office for Turkey, the Caucasus, and Central Asia, and Dario La Nasa, the SWIFT Relationship Manager, on the sidelines of the Sibos 2026 International Financial Industry Forum. The meeting addressed the expansion of international banking cooperation, the implementation of international standards for financial messaging, the development of central bank digital currencies, and the enhancement of compliance mechanisms.
The parties discussed the next steps for implementing the ISO 20022 international standard, as well as cooperation between the National Bank of Tajikistan and the country’s financial institutions to ensure a consistent and efficient transition of the banking system to modern financial messaging formats. They also explored opportunities to hold joint training sessions on ISO 20022 as part of capacity-building efforts, covering the practical transition aspects, the use of new messaging formats, and the study of international best practices.
During the meeting, special attention was paid to current trends in the evolution of the global payment network, the improvement of international payment mechanisms, the adoption of new technological solutions, the development of financial information exchange standards, and the enhancement of cross-border transaction security.
In conclusion, the parties expressed their interest in expanding cooperation, sharing expertise, and implementing joint initiatives in the areas of payment technologies, professional capacity building, and compliance.
