Prospects of cooperation: WB and NBT

On October 26, 2017, the First Deputy Chairman of the NBT Jamoliddin Nuraliev held a working meeting at the National Bank of Tajikistan with Resident Representative of the World Bank in Tajikistan Jan-Peter Olters to consider issues of the World Bank's Cooperation Strategy with the Republic of Tajikistan for 2019-2023. Mr. Jan Peter Olters was accompanied at that meeting by Program Coordinator for Central Asia Sasha Jumen and Project Manager/Senior Social Development Specialist Robert Wrobel.

At this meeting, the Resident Representative of the World Bank in Tajikistan, Jan-Peter Olters addressed with presentation “Tajikistan - choice of path: stagnation and inclusive development”. The presentation reflects a vision of the World Bank on main macroeconomic indicators of Tajikistan, prospects for development of Tajik industries including industry, hydropower, mining, agriculture and tourism as well as access to regional markets. At the same time, the presentation highlighted Tajikistan's key macroeconomic indicators, reduced diversification and development of private sector, fragile stability and development in crisis, geographic and communication constraints and unused potential.

In the presentation of the World Bank, special emphasis was placed on projection of possible future development, implementation of fiscal policy, development of private sector and regional integration.
After the presentation where also the NBT staff attended, discussion took place on content of the presentation with the World Bank experts. During the discussion, the First Deputy Chairman of the NBT Jamoliddin Nuraliev especially noted the need to develop projects for financial and banking sectors, in particular in the insurance sector and need to expand integration in regional markets.

In this regard Jamoliddin Nuraliev has addressed with a new idea to consider opportunities of realizing such beneficial economic relations, in particular, in form of developing a Free Trade Agreement in Central Asia or South Asia, which is of great importance and can contribute to further economic development of the region countries and Republic of Tajikistan. Such cooperation platform can also provide countries in the region within their comparative advantages for sake of effective economic relations and avail themselves of their own capabilities.

At the end of the meeting, the First Deputy Chairman of the NBT Jamoliddin Nuraliev thanked the representatives of the World Bank for the presentation.
