Visit of World Bank Delegation to NBT

On October 26, 2021 Deputy Chairman of the National Bank of Tajikistan Nakhatzoda Mohbonu Kiromiddinhad a working meeting with World Bank delegation led bythe Lead Specialist on digital development and at the same time project manager of "Tajikistan Digital Foundation Project" Mr. Juan Navas-Sabater, who arrived to the Republic of Tajikistan on October 25-29, 2021 with a working visit.

Deputy Chairman of the National Bank of Tajikistan Mohbonu Nakhatzoda expressed satisfaction with the effective cooperation between the NBT and the World Bank in the implementation of various projects and briefedguests on the current state of banking system of the Republic of Tajikistan.

It was mentioned that as of October 1, Tajikistan has been implementing 23 public investment projects in cooperation with the World Bank to improvetransport operation, trade, investment, education, agriculture, health, water supply, energy, environmental protection, emergencies, tourism, etc.

During the meeting, the parties discussed in detail the ways to effectively implement "Tajikistan Digital Foundation Project", outlining banking digitalization as one of the major objectives.

In particular, Mr. Juan Navas-Sabater noted that the main purpose of the visit of the World Bank delegation is to agree and develop effective methods for implementing “Tajikistan Digital Foundation Project”. It was emphasized that implementation of this project will contribute to the development of digital policy and the stability of the banking system of the Republic of Tajikistan.

It is worth mentioning that "Tajikistan Digital Foundation Project" is being implemented at the state level and covers all economic and social areas, and its main goal is to increase the efficiency of activities. The banking system is also involved in implementation of "Tajikistan Digital Foundation Project" as one of the most important and leading sectors of public administration, and at the current stage, the introduction of modern digital technologies is a key aspect of the project.

Matters on further expanding bilateral relations in the field of new technologies and prospects for cooperation were also discussed by parties over the meeting.

It was noted that the meeting was also attended by Antonio Nunez, Head of the Infrastructure Program, Anelia Mueller, Digital Development Specialist, Keong Min Yun, Legal Specialist, ZarinaAbdulalieva, Program and Project Coordinator of the World Bank Country Office in Tajikistan, and heads of NBT departments.
