On May 11, 2023, the Chairman of the National Bank of Tajikistan Kholiqzoda Hokim Hikmatullo held a meeting with the head of the mission of the International Monetary Fund in Tajikistan Matthew Gartner, who is on a working visit to the Republic of Tajikistan within the framework of the Policy Consultation Instrument (PCI).
Mr. Matthew Gartner is accompanied by IMF Senior Economists Farid Talishli, Kalin Tintchev, Dmitry Plotnikov, Sergey Dodzin and IMF Economists Kadi Cynthia Keita, Naila Menlasheva and Jomi Chiniyev.
Chairman of the National Bank of Tajikistan Hokim Kholiqzoda briefed the IMF mission on the current macroeconomic situation in Tajikistan and the banking system. The Chairman, in particular, noted that macroeconomic indicators for the first quarter of 2023 were positive.
The head of the mission of the International Monetary Fund in Tajikistan Matthew Gartner, in turn, said that he was ready to continue negotiations with the responsible persons of the National Bank of Tajikistan in order to achieve the set goals.
During the meeting, the parties discussed the economic forecast and measures taken by the National Bank of Tajikistan, international reserves and their impact on monetary policy and balance of payments operations, changes in the currency market, inflation, remittances and the implementation of IMF recommendations on currency regulation in order to improve the activity of currency market.
It was noted that the PCI is a non-financial instrument and all members of the IMF have access to it. The aim of the PCI is to provide advisory assistance to member countries. It enables the member countries to have a closer dialogue with the IMF.
This program is important for improving the investment climate, and the participation of the Republic of Tajikistan will increase the attractiveness of its national economy to investors.
The first meeting with the new IMF mission for the Republic of Tajikistan was held in an atmosphere of mutual understanding and the parties expressed their readiness to continue mutually beneficial cooperation.
