Visit of the World Bank delegation to the National Bank of Tajikistan

The current situation and prospects of the National Bank of Tajikistan’s relationship with the World Bank were discussed at the meeting of Chairman of the National Bank of Tajikistan Tolibzoda Firdavs Nazrimad with the World Bank delegation held on the 23^rd February 2024. World Bank Country Manager for Tajikistan Ozan Sevemili, Head of IFC Representative Office Farrukh Sultonov, Senior Specialist on Operations of the World Bank Rahimjon Asangaziev and World Bank Chief Accountant Ilyos Sarsenov have participated in the meeting.

The Chairman of the National Bank of Tajikistan expressed satisfaction with the level of fruitful bilateral cooperation with the World Bank in implementing projects aimed at Tajikistan’s economic and social sectors, especially in the sectors of digitalization and improvement the investment

It has been pointed out that the National Bank of Tajikistan closely cooperates with the World Bank in the framework of projects concerning financial management, including “Financial Sector Strengthening Program” implemented with financial support of SECO and “Development of financial and private sectors”. At the same time it was emphasized with the World Bank Technical Assistance as of 2019 the National Bank of Tajikistan has conducted a survey on inflationary expectations the result of which is important for decision-making in monetary and credit policy.   

World Bank Country Manager for Tajikistan, Ozan Sevemili and Head of IFC Representative Office Farrukh Sultonov noted the good level of bilateral cooperation and readiness to further expand it, including in the direction of ensuring stability of Tajikistan’s banking system.  

In the course of the meeting the parties expressed willingness to cooperate in the field of “green economy”, accelerating the digitalization process of Tajikistan’s economy, supporting private entrepreneurship, attracting financing to the private sector, developing the securities market and issuing green bonds, opening of correspondent accounts, promoting financial reforms, establishing Banking Academy and other issues.  

At the end of the meeting the parties expressed their opinion that cooperation between of National Bank of Tajikistan and the World Bank would continue to expand further.
