Introduction of newly-appointed Head of EBRD in Tajikistan

The issues of development of effective bilateral cooperation between the National bank of Tajikistan and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) have been discussed today, on March 27, 2017. Mr. Jamshed Nurmahmadzoda, Chairman of the National Bank of Tajikistan has welcomed Mr. Phillip Bennett, First Vice President of the EBRD and Head of Client Services Group in honour of his official visit to Tajikistan. During a meeting Mr. J. Nurmahmadzoda has expressed gratitude to EBRD for close cooperation and support during the crisis period. Issues of expansion of bilateral cooperation in banking system of the country, including improvement of banking system, investment of SME, creation of new vacancies and others have been underlined also.

It has been noted that the National bank of Tajikistan, with direct participation of Mr. Jamoliddin Nuraliev, Managing Director of the European Reconstruction and Development Bank in the Republic of Tajikistan - First Deputy Chairman of the National bank of Tajikistan actively participates in running projects of EBRD as domestic, and outside of republic, representing for discussion issues, relating to banking system of country and EBRD.

Further Mr. J. Nurmahmadzoda has brought to notice of EBRD representatives issues of funding and development of perspective programs of IMF for support of banking system of the country, SME, in particular in mountain regions of the country, and also for strengthening of monetary policy, etc.

In his turn, Mr. Phillip Bennett, First Vice President of the EBRD has expressed willingness on expansion of bilateral cooperation in sphere of banking system of Tajikistan, having noted that reforms in banking system of Tajikistan, capitalisation of problem banks, crisis pressure on system, solution of banking problems, including in taxation sphere, also making interesting offers relating banking system of the country and perspective directions of cooperation.

Then, Mr. Phillip Bennett, First Vice President of the EBRD has introduced Ms. Ayten Rustamova, new EBRD Head of Office in the Republic of Tajikistan to the authorities of the National bank of Tajikistan. Mr. Phillip Bennett expressed willingness on expansion of the further cooperation and development of relations between the National bank of Tajikistan and EBRD in various branches of economy, particularly in banking system.

It is worth to note that also Mr. Jamoliddin Nuraliev, First Deputy Chairman of the National Bank of Tajikistan and some heads of key departments of NBT had shared their opinions during a meeting. During a meeting, Mr. Neal McCain, EBRD Central Asia Regional Director, Ms. Natasha Khanjenkova, EBRD Managing Director for Central Asia and Russia and Ms. Agnieszka Lukasik, Adviser to EBRD First Vice President accompanied Mr. Phillip Bennett, First Vice President of the EBRD.
