Visit of Mr. Bruno Balvanera – newly appointed EBRD Managing Director for the Central Asia to the National Bank of Tajikistan

On December 10, 2018 Jamoliddin Nuraliev, First Deputy Chairman of the National Bank of Tajikistan, at the same time EBRD Governor for Tajikistan held a business meeting with representatives of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), comprised of Ms. Natalya Khanjenkova, former EBRD Managing Director, Central Asia, Mr. Bruno Balvanera – newly appointed EBRD Managing Director for the Central Asia and Ms. Ayten Rustamova, Head of the European Bank of Reconstruction and Development Office in the Republic of Tajikistan.

In the beginning of the meeting Jamoliddin Nuraliev, First Deputy Chairman of the National Bank of Tajikistan has congratulated Ms. Natalya Khanjenkova with her appointment to the important position and appreciated and thanked for efficient and fruitful activity in the position of EBRD Managing Director, Central Asia.

During the meeting Jamoliddin Nuraliev, First Deputy Chairman of the National Bank of Tajikistan, at the same time EBRD Director for Tajikistan has expressed satisfaction on the level of bilateral co-operations with the EBRD, and welcomed Mr. Bruno Balvanera – newly appointed the EBRD Managing Director for the Central Asia to Tajikistan and wished successes in his future activities in this position of the highest importance.

During meeting the parties also talked on the EBRD activities in the Republic of Tajikistan and its participation in realization of major economic projects and attraction of investment to real economic sector. Jamoliddin Nuraliev has appreciated the EBRD activities in the direction of support of projects for public structure sector as an important initiative, and at the same time directed attention of the EBRD representatives to realization of investment projects in private sector that is considered as key factors of economic development. Jamoliddin Nuraliev has invited for further development of the EBRD activities in contribution for improvement of investment environment and realization of various economic projects, including HPP “Roghun” and energy brunch, infrastructure, construction of roads and especially private sector.

In the course of meeting the parties also have expressed their interest and willingness on support of banking system of the country through engaging technical assistance for improvement of corporate management, implementation of interbank correspondent relations and exchange of experience by holding joint trainings, using international experts. Jamoliddin Nuraliev, First Deputy Chairman of the National Bank of Tajikistan specially draw the attention of the EBRD delegation to consideration of external accounts of the country’s banks issue and acceleration of technical assistances pace in the direction of inflation targeting.

In turn, Mr. Bruno Balvanera – newly appointed EBRD Managing Director for the Central Asia expressed willingness for deepening of cooperation and following the initiatives for realization of economic projects of the Republic of Tajikistan, offering technical assistances in various directions, evaluation and banking system staff development and maintenance of bilateral fruitful co-operations with commercial banks of Tajikistan.

At the end Ms. Natalya Khanjenkova, who acted as EBRD Managing Director for the Central Asia to Tajikistan till now and has contributed in implementation of some important country’s projects was awarded with an acknowledgement.
