Extension of NBT’s cooperation with EBRD

On March 5, 2019 Mr. Jamoliddin Nuraliev, First Deputy Chairman of the National Bank of Tajikistan had a meeting with the EBRD delegation under the leadership of Mr. Neal McCain, EBRD Regional Director for Central Asia that is on business trip in the Republic of Tajikistan.

The overarching theme of meeting included discussion of cooperation perspective in the frame of New EBRD Strategy Project for the Republic of Tajikistan for next five years.

Mr. Jamoliddin Nuraliev, First Deputy Chairman of the National Bank of Tajikistan had acquainted the quests with the results of socio-economic developments of the country, especially, implementation of banking system reform in 2018, securing of transparency and improvement of situation in banking sector, reduction of non-performing loans and efficient realization of monetary policy, using modern tools, and expressed view on existing possibilities for extension of sphere of EBRD activities in Tajikistan.

The main goal of EBRD delegation mission consists of assessment and analysis of present economic development situation of the Republic of Tajikistan in the context of market-driven economy and determination of private sector capacity.

Accordingly, Jamoliddin Nuraliev, First Deputy Chairman of the National Bank of Tajikistan had attracted the attention of EBRD delegation to performance of cooperation in a qualitatively new level, prioritization for further development of economy of Tajikistan backed on private sector. In this context it was highly appreciated the necessity of consideration of priority directions of a country in developing of the new EBRD Strategy Project for forthcoming years with more attention on supporting of public administration sector and financing of water supply projects by EBRD, as well as financing of private sector.

Mr. Neal McCain, EBRD Regional Director for Central Asia has expressed willingness concerning strengthening of bilateral cooperation, and spoke about realization of the EBRD Projects in Tajikistan and prospects of cooperation for future. It was noted that study and analysis of private sector will be the operating result of the EBRD delegation and make the ground of the EBRD Cooperation Strategy for the Republic of Tajikistan. Therefore, the given study will provide priority for current and future investment that directed exclusively for realization of structural and sectoral reform of the country.

During the meeting, Mr. Neal McCain has stated that within the frame of this Strategy extension of cooperation for development of financial sector, trade and private sector is considered. EBRD activities are directed for improvement of investment climate and support of private sector, and so it will able assist to economic development of Tajikistan.

Hans Holtshacker, Deputy Director of The EBRD on Central Asia, leading regional economist, Ayten Rustamova, Head of Office EBRD in Tajikistan, Anastasiya Rodina, senior consultant on management and policy issues, Aziza Zohidova, Chief Economist on management and policy issues, Idil Alpaslan Biljik, EBRD leading economist and heads of the NBT key structures attended the meeting.
